Eastern Market Hotel opens.

The hotel operates out of the former exhibition hall of the Brighton Fair, which is relocated to the corner of Washington Street and Chestnut Hill Avenue. It becomes the Scates Hotel after 1875 and closes when the stockyards move next to the Abattoir in 1881.
